Today’s High Intensity Workout

Hello all!

Just thought I would share this workout because it was a doosey! It is a Jen Dugard style high rep workout.

It really challenged me to push through, especially because I have spent the last 3 days moving house.

So the rules with this workout is you must complete all the reps and if you stop an exercise or change you have to do 5 burpees. This workout took me 40’09”

  • 50 lunges (each leg): 2 rounds – 50, 50
  • 50 Box jump (we have a bench that goes just below my knee): 50
  • 50 TRX row: 50
  • 50 steps (each leg) farmer carry around the garage with 20kg weight plates: 100
  • 50 squat press 5kg dumb bells: 2 rounds – 15, 35
  • 50 MCs each leg: 2 rounds – 50, 50
  • 3min bar hang: 4 rounds – 1m, 40s, 40s, 40s
  • 50 push ups: 2 rounds – 25, 25
  • 50 bank walks side to side: 50
  • 50 n ups: 50

Workout 27th Jan

Thought I would share this one because it really required me to push through this morning. The other chick in the gym gave me the look of “are you ok… you might be dying!”

Can’t wait for slow and heavy Wednesday!

2015 No Refined Sugar: Week 1

Hello hello!

Well it’s almost the end of week 1 without refined sugar… yes I know it’s not technically a full week because the year only started 4 days ago but I figure I’d just start posting on Sundays about my Refined Sugar Free Weeks.

Cobs Popcorn is my all time favourite popcorn… they have other flavours but I have tried – slightly sweet, salt and vinegar, cheese and lightly salted. For the most part they are just a slightly healthier alternative to other bought popcorn. They aren’t full of nutrition but they aren’t terrible. Salt and vinegar is my favourite… I mostly crave salty foods – I have been told this is because of my adrenals.

I went to get some to take into my movie… and what do they have? Yeah you are right! Sugar plain old ordinary sugar. My heart was a little bit crushed. So I didn’t get it but seriously! Why does this need sugar? Why!!

Anyway other than a couple of disappointing moments like this one these few days have been fine. Like I have said refined sugar is not a regular part of my diet. So this experiment may have no effect on my “weight” but that isn’t why I am doing it.

For me this isn’t about the sugar… it is about my longer term goal of becoming a disciplined person. I’m not naturally disciplined, though, consistently getting up and training 5-6 mornings a week is defiantly helping. I do still lack discipline in my nutrition, my regular eating and portion sizes are good but I would say my occasional indulgences are more regular than they should be and they do get bigger than they should. I don’t like saying no to myself when it comes to “treats” because I feel like the fat kid who’s dad said “should you be eating that?.”

Anyway I think it’s about time I got over that… because I think my body deserves the best, and that includes the ability to say no when I need to. Of course there are sweets that don’t have refined sugar but they are harder to get and I either have to make them or make a real effort to find them in a shop. I figure if I say no to the highly processed sugars for a year I’ll have the saying “no” bit it down pat. I’m excited to become the me that is a well oiled, more mindful, disciplined machine.

Of course looking at the negative isn’t a great way to get things done so I am going to explore alternatives and explore labels. This is going to be an interesting year!

Less refined sugar and more #sweatyselfies!

Just on a side note… I don’t really know why I still do the sweaty selfies, but they seem to make people laugh, some people actually say to me that it motivates them but it is fun and fitness should be fun! Follow me on instagram for all my sweaty selfies http://instagram.com/shantikorporaal/… it’s all fun and games until your legs feel like mine after the Coogee stairs this morning!

The day I ate a Spider!

Hi!

I know I have posted about eating a spider before but now the video is up and ready and thought it would be fun to share!

I will never forget the day I ate a spider

We now have an inside joke in our company… “what does spider taste like? it tastes like spider!”

I know snake tastes like chicken, lots of things tastes like chicken but really I cannot explain what spider tastes like only to say it tastes like spider. It is crunchy in bits, chewy in bits and doesn’t have a lot of flavour.

This is about facing my fears! Just the first of many.

End of 2014… and a Beer!

Hello! and Happy New Year!

I’m not really into New Year’s resolutions because they never really work for me. I do like my big goals and life planning so thats what I do. One of the ways I look to the future and forge the person I want to be is by giving up one thing for a year. Well at least I did in 2014 and I will do in 2015. I want to be a strong willed disciplined person so this is just one way of teaching myself these traits.

In 2014 I didn’t drink beer. Ok, beer isn’t a big part of my life but I love the occasional one on a hot day. So it was hard-ish but very do-able. At 12:01am I had a beer, not the best beer I’d ever had but it was really nice to know I said no for a whole year… as small as this is it is pretty empowering.

This year however, I’m giving up refined sugar (except for alcohol, but even then I’m not going to do sugary alcohol mixers). This is going to be a whole other ball game.

Last night at 12:30am I got a packet of chips out for Skeeve, salt and vinegar – my favourite. Normally I would have had a couple, but sugar was like 4th on the list of ingredients!! Sugar in potato chips! I’m going to have to look at all the labels really closely now.

Of course I don’t actually eat a lot of refined sugar, and packaged foods don’t make up much of my diet, but I really enjoy my occasional indulgence. I’m sure this year will be really interesting. I’ve had a couple of people say they are up for the challenge as well, which will be fun. My mum and I are going to try and do this together and share our tales on my blog. So if she has any tips I’ll put them up. She does more fancy cooking and more entertaining than me so this should be interesting.

I’m actually really excited for this one because I get all types of weird cravings so I’m excited to see if I can actually do it.

For me, this isn’t about a New Years resolution or even losing weight. For me this is about fine tuning my discipline and determination. Personally I don’t want anything to have power over me, including cravings or the occasional whim.

I’m excited!
