I’m Quitting Sugar

While I was away eating too much sugar I was reading “I Quit Sugar” by Sarah Wilson it’s a great easy to read e-book.

It is 8 weeks, first week is just excess sugar, second – eight weeks are full sugar lock down including grains. Which is fine I don’t really eat many grains anyway.

I really enjoyed reading her e-book, I’m not a massive reader and I read it through twice!

I started on Saturday 3rd August so I officially finish on Saturday 28th September.

I am just doing no sugar at all from the get go, I don’t have much with added sugar so that didn’t seem like a challenge. I think giving up fruit will be the hardest, it is my go to snack.

Anyway I’ll give it my best shot. This means I’m not really supposed to drink either which will be good for my weight loss.

I have worked out that 1 teaspoon of sugar = 4 grams, by the IQS rules you should not have any more than 6 teaspoons a day. Which sounds reasonable.

But then you add in, FAT!! Obviously good fats but still I’ll never understand this thing that eating fat doesn’t make you fat. However, I met a man recently who is a mountain climber, he is paleo through and through, basically only eats protein and meat and he is only about 6% body fat and very slim but toned.

I don’t know if this will work or not, but I do know I need to get rid of these crazy cravings I have before they do my head in! I get so many cravings mostly for sugar. Anyway I need to quit this habit. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t but I have to try, I’m curious.

Something New in November 2012

So in October Skeeve and I went Paleo for the month. It was interesting for sure, I learnt a lot about my body. A couple of examples are when my body wants vegetable juice I am just going to give it that instead of saying “no common you need a real meal!” Also, when I eat meat more than 3 times a week my eczema and skin irritations get really bad. Raw fruit and vegetables suit me the best.

Since October was a success and we stuck it out I am doing something new for November. This month I am going to walk for 30 mins a day. Some day I will not feel like it but I am going to do it anyway, if I am really not feeling it I will just walk a little slower or something. But, I will walk for 30 mins a day. If I can do Paleo for a month I can do this for sure. I already know the benefits of 30mins of daily walking I’ve just never really done anything about it.

This morning on my walk I had fun, I listened to music, I picked fruit off a tree and I got really close to a cockatoo. Yes! Me in nature!

I’m looking forward to it… maybe I can make this a trend – doing something new each month for my health.

Anyway 30 mins a day of walking, preferably outside but if it is raining I will go on the treadmill.

Paleo so far

Since 1st October Skeeve and I decided to go Paleo… very interesting approach fairly common sense. No processed foods, dairy, legumes and grains. Basically meat, fruit, veggies, nuts and seeds. Though, for the first 10 days I had eaten way too much meat and I have been so sluggish and tired on top of that my skin/eczema flared up massively.

Through some research and interview watching I found a couple of people that have been on Juice fasts. Basically this means just fruits and veggies for a while. So I have decided to go with that. At the moment I am drinking vegetable juice and eating fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Then I will do just a juice fast for one or two weeks then back to eating fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds for a little while. Then slowly introduce meats again. Basically as Joe Cross says “Reboot your system”. Flush out all the crap and start fresh.

This process for the first time takes about 15 days I think 5, 5 & 5. 5 eating and juicing, 5 days juicing, 5 days eating and juicing. Joe himself did a 60 day juice fast which is how he started. I don’t think myself or my household is ready for that yet.

This has all happened since I have decided I am going to listen to my body. It got to the point were I was sweating at the thought of eating meat and gagging when cooking it. So it was fair to say my body didn’t really want it. I will never be a vegetarian or anything I am just taking a little break to give my system a chance to re-aline itself.

In a couple of days I will go to nothing but fruit and veggies. I have always been so obsessed about my weight that I never listened to my body. I figured if the healthy people say eat this then eat it. I totally forgot that not everyone responds to foods the same way.

Anyway so this is where I am at. When my body says I’m hungry I eat, when I don’t want food I don’t eat. When I want vegetable juice I have it. Its great… I am yet to have a craving for pizza or a burger or anything that isn’t within what I am eating right now.

Roll with it.
